Matthias Heil is Professor of Applied Mathematics at Manchester University. He is heavily into scientific computing: finite element methods, multi-physics problems, fluid and solid mechanics and anything else that lends itself to (and benefits from) being attacked with clever numerical methods. Co-architect (with Andrew Hazel) of oomph-lib, the object-oriented multi-physics finite element library, available as open source software at http://www.oomph-lib.org
